G. T. Michelli Company, Inc. has been selling and servicing scales, balances and weighing systems since 1947. We represent a large number of manufacturers, including the most respected names in the industry. We perform all scale and weighing related technical services, including installations, calibration checks, servicing, and design work.

Our corporate office is in Harahan, Louisiana; near the city of New Orleans. We have other offices in Mobile, Alabama; Pearl, Mississippi (near Jackson); Baton Rouge, Louisiana; Bossier City, Louisiana; Texarkana, Arkansas; Sulphur, Louisiana; and Monroe, Louisiana. We also have a location in Houston, Texas named Aabbott-Michelli Technologies, Inc.

We have a large rental fleet, consisting of truck scales, floor scales, crane scales, and counting scales.

Company Resources: It takes a large investment in tools, test equipment, and training to properly install and service the wide variety of scale hardware, which exists today. We have a number of resources not commonly found at the distributor level in our industry:

• Four 20,000 lb. capacity Test Trucks, Five 55,000 lb. capacity Test Trucks utilizing a 25,000 lb. capacity Weight Testing Cart.
• 150,000 lb. capacity tension and compression Test Machine
• Portable Force Calibrator for field calibration of heavy capacity tank scales
• Fully equipped Balance Shop, including a marble table and class-S test weights
• Specialized Electronic Test Equipment for troubleshooting marginal strain gauge load cells
• In-house Computer Programmer

Our History

• 1929 - G.T. Michelli, Sr. began his career with Burroughs Corporation as a service technician trainee to service their line of adding machines, cash registers and bank calculating machines.
• 1937 - G.T. Michelli, Sr. joined the sales department at Burroughs Corporation.
• 1942 – G.T. Michelli, Sr. resigned from Burroughs Corporation and formed the By-Pel Equipment Company working out of a rented 600 sqft building on Palmyra Street in New Orleans, LA. He became a manufacturer’s representative for the McKaskey Register line which at the time was a complete unknown product in his territory. He began to add products to his offering that he could sell to his existing customers and gain a larger customer base. He added material handling and food processing equipment. He represented only one line of scales – Exact Weight Corporation.
• 1947 - G.T. Michelli Company was founded by G.T. Michelli, Sr. The scale business had grown so well that a decision was made to form a new company and name it after himself. He and his wife were the sole employees. Mrs. Michelli was the bookkeeper and Mr. Michelli sold and serviced the equipment. Gradually the scale business outpaced the material handling business.
• 1951 – G.T. Michelli, Jr. began working with his father in high school and continued during college.
• 1956 – Purchased and moved into the first building with 2,600 sqft at 526 Metairie Rd in Metairie, LA.
• 1957 – G.T. Michelli, Jr. joins the company full-time primarily servicing scales and material handling equipment.
• 1961 - G.T. Michelli Company was Incorporated.
• 1972 – Built a new 42,000 sqft multi-unit warehouse/office facility on Barron Street in Metairie, LA. The company occupied 9,000 sqft.
• 1980 - G.T. Michelli, Jr. purchases the company from his father.
• 1981 - G.T. Michelli Co., Inc. becomes a local Toledo Scale Distributor.
• 1982 - Opened the first branch office in Mobile, AL. Later came the acquisition of three (3) Toledo Scale direct service offices and became the Toledo Scale Distributor for Louisiana and lower Arkansas. The offices are located in Shreveport and Monroe, LA and Texarkana, AR.
• 1983 - Opened an office in Baton Rouge, LA.
• 1984 - Opened an office in Jackson, MS.
• 1991 - Corporate Headquarters moves into a 20,000 sqft facility in Harahan, LA.
• 1992 - Opened an office in Lake Charles, LA.
• 1994 – Purchased the first Heavy Duty Test Truck with Test Cart.
• 1997 – Acquisition of Quality Scale Company in Baton Rouge, LA.
• 1998 – Revenues surpassed $10 million dollars for the first time. The acquisition of Elliot Scale Company in Monroe, LA.
• 2000 - Attains ISO9002:1994 Registration (certificate# 00-891).
• 2001 - G.T. Michelli Co., Inc. is featured in the International Society of Weighing & Measurement Magazine February 2001 issue. The acquisition of AABBOTT Scale Company in Houston, TX. The company is renamed AABBOTT-Michelli Technologies, Inc.
• 2003 - Upgrade to ISO9001:2000 Registration (certificate# C2003-04293).
• 2006 - Nominated for CityBusiness 2006 Innovator of the Year Award. The company was featured in the CityBusiness Magazine June 2006 issue.  Article
• 2007 - Maintains ISO9001:2000 Registration with a re-certification audit (certificate# C2007-00400).
• 2008 – A scene for the movie “The Final Destination 4” was filmed at the corporate office in Harahan. The warehouse area and rear of the building created the setting for Grand State Customs, a custom auto body shop.
• 2009 - Maintains ISO9001:2000 Registration with a re-certification audit (certificate# C2009-01862). The company pursues ISO17025 Accreditation. The target date is early 2010.  Certificate
